Best practices for providing PD

Teachers gave up their free time during the day to attend PD and didn’t ask for coverage or anything. Provided options to teachers and this is what most of them selected. Many teachers had common periods free and chose that. Teachers who attend PD receive the most support from the iTech coach.

Teacher reaction was varied depending on skill level.

Took teachers out of their assignment for the day and hired subs. This was successful.

Providing PD before school worked.
  • The laptops have helped the students stay engaged and focused. The laptops have made a tremendous difference. Believes test scores also went up as a result. Important for the coach to be able to deliver PD effectively.
  • Used the NYC DOE PD days.
  • Sent lead core content teachers to central office PD
  • It was helpful for the teachers to see what the students who were going to be theirs next year were doing this year
